The mid-term/final exam tutorial sessions
This service will be offered at the U of M and the other universities in Canada and the U.S.
i-These tutorial sessions are usually offered a few days before the
mid- term exams and a few days before the finals exams. They could run for 5-7 hours, only in one day, depend on the subject matter.
ii-There will be a tutoring session if there
are enough interested students for a session (more than 20 students). If you want to attend
a tutorial session please contact David by the phone or by the e-mail ASAP to make sure there are enough booklets for everybody on the day of the tutorial session.
iii-These tutorial sessions have fixed dates and times that they can not be changed easily. They will be posted on this web site a few weeks in advance of the tutorial sessions.
If students like to make a suggestion about the date or the time of a tutorial session, they need to contact David a few weeks in advance so the changes could be made if it is possible.
iv-These tutorial sessions have fixed fees and they will be collected on the day of the session at the door before the session starts (cash only).
v-These tutorial sessions are based on the materials that the students need to know for a specific test or a subject matter regardless of the students background or knowledge about that course or topic. They are Structured Tutoring Sessions. Please see FAQ page for the details
vi-For the each subject matter, if the old exams are available, I will use 2 or more of the old exams (time permitted) to cover all the topics that students need to know for a mid-term test or the final exam. I will provide the students with the old exams if they are available through the university web sites.
vii-If there are no old exams available for a course then I will use made up questions during the tutorial sessions (based on the text book, course outline and the questions asked by the students)
viii-During the tutorial sessions I will write down the answers to the old exam questions on an overhead projection.
Students most benefit from these session if they have done some studying before they come to the session. They can try the questions on their own before the sessions and then during the sessions they can check their answers.
ix-If students have not done any studying before the sessions, then they need to write down all the information, go home and work on all the questions again and use the answers provided during the tutorial sessions as the reference.
x-All students will get the complete notes for the materials that they are needed. They are hand
written and they are based on your course outline and your text
books (there are no solutions or worked out problems in these notes). I will do all the calculations and problem work out during the sessions.
xi-For some courses such as Biochemistry 2360 and 2370 only some selected questions will be covered (calculation questions) due to the limited time.
xii-For Biochemistry 2360 and 2370 the theoretical concepts and answers to theoretical questions will be provided in the tutorial booklets as the general answers.
xiii-I don't have access to any
course materials that they are on the WebCT (need an ID and a password),
so if you have any question about a course material from the WebCT you
need to send me the materials by the e-mail as a PDF file or MS words
before the tutorial session and I will go over them during the tutorial
sessions.
